What is this school’s approach to student discipline and safety?

We follow a positive behavior support mode whereby we focus on promoting positive behaviors by establishing clear expectations, reinforcing good behavior, and providing appropriate consequences for inappropriate behavior. Our model emphasizes teaching and modeling desired behaviors rather than just punishing negative behavior. As for school safety, we have implemented a multitude of safety enhancements that include safety improvements to our facilities as well as included mental health programs and diagnostics. We also utilize a great deal of technology that includes Safe2Say apps, internet security measures, screening systems, etc.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework

Our district is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment for all students through our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. PBIS is an evidence-based, three-tiered approach designed to enhance and integrate the systems, data, and practices that influence student outcomes daily. By focusing on proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors, PBIS aims to foster a positive school climate where all students can thrive.

Through PBIS, we address student discipline and bullying prevention by promoting positive behaviors and providing targeted support where needed. The framework includes universal interventions for all students, targeted support for those at risk, and intensive interventions for individuals requiring additional assistance. This structured approach not only helps prevent behavioral issues but also encourages a culture of respect, responsibility, and safety throughout the school community. Our commitment to PBIS reflects our broader goal of ensuring every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
