Garnet Valley School District Technology Guidelines

1. STUDENT and PARENT/GUARDIAN acknowledge the following Administrative Regulations

and Board Policies, which are accessible on the District’s website at: https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/garn/Board.nsf/Public. No. 224 Care of School Property, No. 237 Electronic Communication Devices, and No. 815 Acceptable Use of Computer Network, Computers, and Resources. If STUDENT and/or PARENT/GUARDIAN would like a paper copy of the above Administrative Regulations and Board Policies they can contact the school office to make a request and paper copies will be provided.

2. STUDENT and PARENT/GUARDIAN can choose to purchase optional device insurance. This service offers the choice for families who want the reassurance of having their school-issued device(s) protected against accidental damages. Accidental damage insurance provides coverage for both in-school and out-of-school use of the device. Accidental insurance covers drops, spills, cracked screens, or broken keyboards that result in the device being unusable and needing to be replaced. However, it is important to note that intentional damage or abuse/neglect of the device is not covered by accidental insurance.

The cost for this insurance remains unchanged at $45, covering all school-issued devices utilized by students. Coverage runs from the date of purchase to the end of the school year. To enroll in the accidental insurance program, please visit the following link: https://www.legacytechnologyservices.com/gvsd/p/garnet-valley-device-insurance-k-11th-grade

  • the cost for damages without insurance will range from $99 (1st offense) to $349 (iPads) $749 MacBooks) for (2nd offense).

  • if any device stops working because of a hardware or software issue it will be replaced by the district at no cost.

  • PARENTS may not substitute homeowners or other personal insurance for District-procured Electronic Device insurance.

3. PARENT/GUARDIAN and STUDENT accept all financial responsibility with respect to damage, loss or theft of the school-issued device while the school-issued device is in the possession, custody or control of STUDENT.

The student or parent/guardian must obtain a copy of the police report and submit it to the appropriate Technology Support Specialist. 9. Garnet Valley is committed to helping students develop a healthy relationship with technology. The district’s goal is to provide the right balance of educating students to safely explore the digital world with age-appropriate content filtering and device restrictions. To do that:

  • Garnet Valley leverages Common Sense Media’s Digital Citizenship curriculum to address timely topics and prepare students to take ownership of their digital lives. Garnet Valley is one of only a handful of districts in the country to be named a Certified Common Sense School District. This award is given to districts that demonstrate a commitment to educating students on the responsible and appropriate use of technology.
